Project 21

Project 21 is a stewardship campaign and faith venture for those that call the Evangelical Covenant Church of Fort Collins their church. It is a spiritual journey where God is furthering our vision and therefore rearranging how we do finances so that we can better 1) reach out with compassion together, 2) appropriately fund existing ministry, and 3) create House Churches. The title “Project 21” comes to us from Matthew 21:21 where Jesus says, “… you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.” We believe there is a mountain before us that we are asking to be “thrown into the sea” by faith. This mountain is not just our debt, but that which may be preventing us from hearing and responding to the voice of Christ fully and joyfully with our time and resources. It’s not really a time to look at what others could or should do. It is a time to examine what is happening in our own lives and family in this area. From now until October 25 we are simply asking those who attend ECC to join the journey, which means:

  • First & foremost pray with an open posture, "Lord, how would you have me in this?"
  • Engage the body by participating in the events you are invited to
  • Be diligent in using the devotional guide
  • Listen to the sermon series
  • Visit the web site
  • Engage in informal conversations
  • Respond to what God is uniquely calling you to give these next three years above and beyond your regular giving

ENGAGING GOD

“PRAYER I” - MATTHEW 7.7-11

As we begin this journey together it is overwhelming to consider again that the great God of the universe actually wants us to pursue Him and wants to give us good gifts. In one sense, this is what the whole journey is about; our whole body pursuing God ‘whole hog.’

  • Somewhere in the beginning of this week take a moment to list out all of the good gifts you can remember that God has already given to you. With that list read the first two chapters of Ephesians and again list out all the things mentioned there that God gives to us.
  • As the week progresses, use these lists to launch you into a time of prayer, a time of seeking after God by remembering how faithful God has been. Of course you can continue to add things to your list from your own life and other points in scripture.
  • At the end of the week, reflect and record how this shaped your thinking and conversation with God. What have you learned about seeking God this week?

“Nothing is more central in the spiritual life than prayer.”

~ Richard Foster

“The church exists for nothing else but to draw men into Christ, to make them little Christs.”

~ C.S. Lewis
